Subassembly

Subassembly

Assembly of aerospace vehicles at the prime contractor or systems integrator begins with the accumulation of subassemblies. An example of a typical subassembly for a transport aircraft is the rear fuselage section, which is itself composed of several segments.

A subassembly is an assembly of parts, such as those in an internal combustion engine, which are destined to be part of a much larger assembly, such as a passenger vehicle. An assembly drawing shows an assembly of parts and specifies how the whole component is assembled.
